Travis and I went to the Riverbank's Zoo in Columbia, SC, yesterday. I just want to cry. I am so happy for the fact that they are trying to breed endangered animals! But at the same time, my tears are of sorrow! Looking into the eyes of these poor little darlings.....you can see how unhappy they are! For instance, the hippo was in this tiny little water hole.....I've seen humans with more swimming space than that! And the space is even smaller [in ratio] for the simple fact that hippos are so much bigger than humans!
And I was there when they were feeding the grizzlies.....They weren't throwing the food to the bears.....They were throwing the food at the bears! Granted grapes aren't likly to hurt.....But the apples prolly did!!!
The animals are so beautiful, but it's just so sad!!!
And the majority of the people working (or volunteering) there, that I met, were complete assholes! Go South Carolina!!!
I hate living in this state!

The area was ok if they cared enough about those animals then they could really be happy. But all the owners and care takers care about is how much money they can get off these animals. Like she said the hippos' water hole was pittyfull, ive seen puddles bigger than that. its really bad since they spend more than 70% of their time in the water, and the workers were assholes, they kept trying to rush just so the could close the doors, one of they girls, when we were in the reptile room, looked at us and said this building is closed. I know from reading this it doesnt sound bad, but she had a very bitchy attitude. its too bad that, thats our closest zoo.
